Obituary

Paul Waide Wood, affectionately known as "Rusty," passed away on February 13, 2026, in La Junta, Colorado. He was 85 years old.

 

Born on October 12, 1940, in Miami, New Mexico, Rusty’s early years were spent during the era of the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression. These experiences contributed to the resilient and hard-working character he was known for throughout his life.

 

On December 31, 1959, Rusty married Betty Casebolt in Raton, New Mexico. The couple lived in Oklahoma for seven years before moving to La Junta, Colorado, in 1967. Rusty began working for NIBCO, where he remained a dedicated employee for many years. He was a contractor and roofer following. Once he settled in Colorado, where he found his home.

 

Rusty was a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his two daughters, Paula (Rick) Klein and Peggy (Vic) Cervone. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Anna Maria (Jake) Hoban, Gianna (Dan) Cervone, Carolina Cervone, (Jordan Koch), Jessie (Jaron) Hinkley, and Tiffany Klein. He is also survived by many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

 

In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his sisters, Helen Nobles, Betty Baldonado, Anne Wood & families; his nephew, Paul (Julie) Keith and his dear friend, Kim (Chris) Brenning. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty.

 

Rusty was known by all as an honorable, generous, and kind man. He was always willing to offer help to his family and friends whenever it was needed. He will be missed dearly by all those who were fortunate enough to have met him.

 

No services will be held, per his request. Donations can be made to the Arkansas Valley Hospice.
