Prowers County Sheriff's Office Arrests Alamosa Man in Holly Drive-By Shooting; Attempted Homicide Charges Filed
 
On Saturday, 2/14/26, at approximately 6:45pm, Prowers County Communications Center received a 911 call that originated in Coolidge, KS, regarding a drive-by shooting.  Deputies responded to the east end of the county just in case the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office needed assistance.  While responding, deputies were advised of a victim being shot at just inside Colorado.  Multiple reporting parties in Holly, CO called 911 to report multiple shots fired.  One reporting party was being shot at.  Deputies located the suspect vehicle.  During a short pursuit, a PCSO deputy rammed the suspect vehicle, in an attempt to get the vehicle stopped, due to the nature of the charges and to prevent the suspect vehicle from getting back into the city limits of Holly. Deputies eventually got the vehicle to stop inside the town limits of Holly and the suspect was arrested.  
 
Deputies arrested Matthew Griffith from Alamosa, CO for Attempted Homicide and multiple gun related violations.  Griffith is being held at the Prowers County Jail without bond.  Additional charges are pending from Kansas.  
 
There was information reported about a possible 2nd suspect.  During the investigation, deputies determined it was only one suspect who was shooting.  
 
The case is still active and the Prowers County Sheriff's Office Investigators are asking the Holly and surrounding community to check for any damages and to check for any surveillance video associated with this case and report damage or video to the Sheriff's Office, Sgts. Rodriguez or Madrid.

**Updated 2-17-26**  PCSO also has information that the incident may have actually started in Garden City with a vehicle being struck by a bullet at a business there on Feb 14th, 2026. Garden City authorities are investigating this incident and charges may be pending.
 
All Parties Considered Innocent Until Proven Guilty in a Court of Law.
