To the people of Crowley County:
I am seeking your vote in the next election for the office of the Sheriff as a Republican candidate. I currently hold the rank as your Undersheriff for the Crowley County Sheriff’s Office and have been serving the citizens of Crowley County since 2020.
I live in Ordway with my wife, Myriah and our pets, Mayhem, Jack and Mitt. We have been together since 2017 when we met while I lived in Rangely. I asked Myriah to be my wife on her dream vacation in Ireland while we were visiting the Cliff of Moher and we married in 2022. We enjoy cooking together, walking Mayhem, going to movies, and trying out new restaurants. Myriah is a dispatcher who currently works for Colorado State Patrol in Pueblo. Typically, you can find me at local games or walking my dog around town. If you see me, feel free to walk up and talk to me any time.
I was born and raised in the small town of Orion Illinois. I moved to Colorado when I was 14 to Delta where I attended Delta High school. My parents are Carl and Barbara Mazzella. My father passed away to cancer in 2016 where he lived in Delta, CO. My mother currently lives in Grand Junction, CO and owns her own business.
My father is the child of immigrants from Italy, and he was raised in Charleston West Virginia. He worked in government service for over 40 years. He started his career in the US Navy and served most notably aboard the USS Missouri. He then left the Navy and got his degree in Engineering and entered civilian government service. He worked for NASA’s Apolo program and helped land a man on the moon. He ended his career working for the Rock Island Arsenal where he led teams that designed equipment that is still in use in the US Military today.
My mother lived in Derby Iowa and put herself through college while raising two boys and waiting on tables. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in science and nursing and has been working as a nurse ever since. She continued her education and had since completed her master’s in nursing and operates the adult daycare facility, Day by Day in Delta Colorado.
In my life, I have worked in various fields. I worked in fire and flood restoration, Lifeguard, coal mining, a Psych Hospital, and of course, Law Enforcement. Since starting this career, I’ve found it to be the most fulfilling career I could have asked for. I have a very high work ethic and come in every day ready to serve the people of this community. This is not an easy career, and the Office of the Sheriff is big undertaking. With my experience, work ethic and dedication, this office will continue to flourish for the people of Crowley County.
I am a supporter and defender of the Constitution. I fully support the 2nd Amendment for the citizens and recognize there is government overreach from Denver infringing on our god given rights. I will always support the entire constitution and defend the people’s right to bear arms. Currently there are laws coming that I know are unconstitutional. There are also legal challenges to those laws, and I pray the efforts to strike down those laws will be successful. I will fulfill the duty of the Sheriff to ensure there is no infringement of any of your rights, most notably your right to keep and bear arms.
I served in the Rio Blanco County area for 13 years prior to moving to Crowley County. In his career, I have been a Field Training Officer, Evidence Custodian, Youth ATV instructor, Driving Instructor, Arrest Control Instructor, Shooting Instructor and an Adjunct Instructor for the Federal Academy in Rangely, CO. In my career, I have investigated various crimes of drug dealing, sex abuse, robbery, burglary, attempted homicide, child abuse, domestic violence, at-risk-adult. I have an extraordinary ability to get out in the county and find the drugs before they to make its way into our community. I also believe that the public deserves safe roadways. I am a leader in the valley in arrests for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs and drug apprehensions. I believe in a proactive approach and to encourage the deputies to get out in the community and find problems and address them.
In my time with the Crowley County Sheriff’s Office, I have been fiscally conservative. I have been utilizing programs to update equipment and send deputies to training courses that have saved the Crowley County taxpayers a considerable amount of money. I am fiscally conservative, and understand that as Sheriff, I will be a good steward of the taxpayer’s money. I make every effort to find the best deals on purchases of supplies and equipment for the office.
I am involved with the current Sheriff’s Office staff to comply with the new jail standards that were set by the County Sheriff’s of Colorado organization. As a team we have been working to bring the jail in Crowley County into compliance with being an accredited facility to safely house the inmates held in custody.
I want to continue to train deputies to better serve the people of Crowley County. With the current trend, the Crowley County Sheriff’s Office will be fully staffed. This is a rarity for this office. I have worked side by side with the deputies in dispatch and patrol. I want to continue these relationships to keep staffing at its current levels. I have been leading the patrol team and guiding them in building better cases. I believe in open communication with people, the court system, and the deputies to solve problems. I want to continue these relationships as their Sheriff to create a happy work environment where the people can better serve the people of Crowley County.
