Overnight Fire at Colorado Mills Storage Facility Extinguished by Lamar Fire and Mutual Aid Crews

On Saturday night at approximately 8PM Lamar Fire was dispatched to the area of Colorado Mills on Crystal street for a reported structure fire.

Upon arrival the crews saw fire coming from the roof of a flat bottom storage facility for sun flower.

Engine 6 and Truck 1 were first arriving units on scene. Engine 6 deployed a 2.5” attack line with Truck 1 establishing a water source from Corporate Ave. Quint 1 arrived and established an additional water source from Sandoval Lane and Ave Colonia advancing to the South side of the building.

The elevated master stream was placed at the South side door to protect the interior crew making the attack. Rescue 1, Med 1, Med 3, FRU 3, FRU 4, and Engine 5 arrived on scene to assist. FRU4 called command and requested mutual aid from Prowers County Rural.

The interior crew knocked down the fire and reported that a large amount of sun flower seed was on fire inside the building. Crews from Colorado Mills as well as Carrigan Excavating had been on scene through the day removing product from the building.

The crews used multiple front end loaders to remove product and ensure that fire was fully extinguished. Crews cleared the scene at approximately 0145 on Sunday morning and were returned to service.

Lamar Fire would like to thank Colorado Mills, Carrigan Excavating, Lamar PD, Prowers County SO, Prowers County Rural Fire, Prowers County Dispatch, Lamar Light and Power, and Atmos Energy for the assistance.
