Obituary
A graveside memorial celebration of life for longtime Irving, Texas resident, formerly of Lamar, Colorado, Cleon Scriven will be held at a later date.
Cleon Joseph Scriven went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 25, 1016 with his sister Ileen and brother Dee and wife Karla at his side. He was born in Lamar, Colorado on March 20, 1943 which meant he shared his birthday with his younger brother Daniel David. He grew up in Lamar and graduated from Lamar Union High School in 1962 and then continued on to Graduate from Lamar Junior College in 1964. He continued his education in Kansas City to be a keypunch operator. He then returned to Lamar to be with Family. In 1966 his Aunt Lexie Allen took him to Dallas, Texas in the hope of more opportunities for employment. She helped him to find a job, buy a car and find his first and only apartment. He worked for a couple of freight companies until his retirement.
When his apartment was sold he was at a loss as to where he should go, so his sister Ileen let him move to Irving, Texas to live with her until his death.
Cleon was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and living in Dallas Area offered him the opportunity to attend many different churches. Because of his own severe scoliosis and multiple other personal health issues he researched health products and healthy living which contributed to him living to 83 years of age. Cleon loved the Lord and studied the Bible with passion.
The last 10 years of his life were more difficult because he had lost his hearing through the explosion of the airbags in a car wreck. He quit driving and spent his time at home studying the Bible, researching items if interest on the internet and walking in the neighborhood.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Cleo Scriven, Brothers Allen, Dan (Jean), Lester (Betty) Scriven and niece Melinda Jager and special Aunt Lexie Allen.
Cleon is survived by his sister Ileen Scriven of Irving, TX and brother Dee (Karla) Scriven of Colorado Springs, CO, Nieces and nephews David (Barbara) Scriven of Lamar, CO, Pamela Scriven of Lamar, CO, Laura (Brandon) Jaap and Rodger (Amy) Scriven both of Colorado Springs, CO, and special cousin Paul Allen of Arizona.
His sister Ileen will find the home much quieter without him.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Scoliosis Research Society either direct or in care of the funeral home.
Peacock Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
