Bent County Law Enforcement Responds to Potential Threat Near County Road 10
On May 11, 2026, the Bent County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a potentially armed suspect in the 30,000 block of County Road 10.
Due to the nature of the report, a coordinated response was launched involving the Las Animas Police Department, Colorado State Patrol, and the Bent County Sheriff’s Posse. As a standard safety precaution, Las Animas schools were immediately placed on secure to ensure the security of students and faculty while the search was conducted.
Law enforcement successfully located the individual shortly thereafter.
While the suspect was found not to be an active threat, they were found to be in violation of a protection order.
