CBI Announces Eighteen Bodies Positively Identified in Davis Mortuary Investigation
May 20, 2026 – CBI – Pueblo, CO –The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is providing an update on the ongoing investigation into the Davis Mortuary, confirming that the number of positively identified bodies by the Fremont County Coroner in consultation with the Pueblo County Coroner has climbed to eighteen. The remains identified are from individuals who died between the years 2010 and 2012.
The most recent nine identifications were made using Forensic Genetic Genealogy (FGG)—a process that involves asking a private lab to use public DNA databases, such as GEDmatch, to find distant relatives and build family trees.
Under the direction of the Fremont County Coroner and the Pueblo County Coroner’s office in conjunction with the CBI and 10th Judicial DA’s Office, the remaining six bodies are still undergoing identification. This continued use of FGG is necessary because of a lack of records from Davis Mortuary, lack of investigative leads, poor condition of the remains, or degraded DNA.
The CBI continues to investigate the multiple containers of bones, cremains, and probable human tissue representing an unknown number of deceased individuals. Investigators remain focused on the victims' families, understanding how difficult this entire situation is for them.
The CBI has worked in concert with the 10th Judicial District Attorney’s Office every step of the way in this complex investigation. The case information will be presented to the District Attorney’s office for review and filing of charges.
