Head on Crash Closes Southbound Interstate 25

Motorists encouraged to seek alternate route

(Douglas County, Colo) – At about 5:12 a.m., the Colorado State Patrol responded to the area of southbound Interstate 25 near Plum Creek Road (milepost 179) for a reported wrong-way driver, head on crash.

When troopers arrived at the scene, they found a Chevrolet pick up and a silver Toyota sedan that had collided head on. The preliminary investigation shows the Chevrolet was going northbound in the southbound lanes when it hit the Toyota. The driver of the Chevrolet was transported to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries. The driver of the Toyota was checked on scene by medical personnel but refused to be transported. Both vehicles have extensive damage and are blocking the southbound lanes. 

Southbound Interstate 25 will be closed for an extended period of time for the crash investigation.

**Update** Head on Crash Closes Southbound Interstate 25

(Douglas County, COLO) - The ongoing investigation of this morning’s crash on Interstate 25 near Plum Creek Road (milepost 179) shows that a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling north, in the left southbound lane. A Toyota Camry was traveling south in the right southbound lane. The Silverado struck the center concrete barrier on its passenger side, causing it to veer left into the right lane of travel. The Silverado struck the Camry head-on. Both vehicles came to rest on the interstate, blocking travel.

This investigation remains open and is ongoing. The driver of the Silverado, a 56-year-old male from Cheyenne, WY, was transported to an area hospital for serious injuries. The driver of the Camry, a 36-year-old male from Aurora, CO, was uninjured and not transported. The Interstate was reopened on May 20, 2026, at around 6:53 a.m.

The Colorado State Patrol is the lead investigating agency for this incident.
