CBI Assists La Junta Police in Arrest Following Standoff
June 5, 2026 – CBI – La Junta, CO –The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) assisted the La Junta Police in making two arrests following a standoff. On June 4, 2026, at approximately 6:27 p.m., La Junta Police officers responded to the 1100 block of Raton Avenue following reports that a male had pointed a firearm at a neighbor. Upon officer arrival, the two male suspects—later identified as 56-year-old Tony Poland and his 29-year-old son, James Poland—barricaded themselves inside their apartment.
The CBI’s Special Response Team was requested to assist in the operation. After officers obtained a search warrant for the residence, both suspects were taken into custody without further incident.
Tony Poland (Father) has been charged with:

Felony menacing

Resisting arrest

Failure to leave the premises upon request
James Poland (Son) has been charged with:
-
Attempted 2nd degree burglary
-
Felony menacing
-
Resisting arrest
-
Criminal mischief
-
Unlawful possession of a controlled substance

Failure to leave the premises upon request
The Otero County Sheriff's Office and the La Junta Fire Department also provided assistance during the incident.
All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
