Missy Woods Pleads Guilty in DNA Misconduct Case; CBI Rea
June 23, 2026 – CBI – Golden, CO – The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is providing a statement following the guilty plea of former CBI employee Yvonne "Missy" Woods on June 23, 2026.
The actions of Yvonne "Missy" Woods constituted intentional criminal fraud carried out by a single individual. The conduct violated the law and professional standards of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. It was not reflective of CBI's institutional practices or mission.
"This moment is not about moving on, for CBI it's about moving forward," said Armando Saldate, Director of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. "Today's guilty plea is an important moment of accountability."
CBI has undertaken reforms that go beyond routine compliance and reflect a commitment to national best practices in forensic science. Additional operational improvements to the agency's laboratory systems are underway, with the goal of ensuring the highest standards of accuracy and accountability.
The CBI thanks the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the First Judicial District Attorney's Office for their work in this case.
