Happy Independence Day to the USA and Colorado!!

The greens at the La Junta Golf Course were hot as firecrackers as the La Junta Senior Golf League celebrated Independence Day 2026 on June 30. Fifty-one golfers, dressed in red, white and blue, played nine holes that were set up as a par-three course. There was a separate putting game on the practice green and after play we gathered to enjoy CaSandra Thomas’s delicious dessert and talk about our fantastic shots!

Two of our golfers conquered the challenge chips set up on hole #2 and #6.  Mike Bauserman made the chip on hole #2 and Rob Tryon made the chip on both holes!  The challenge putt on hole #2 was made by John Lockhart, Fred Grantham, Rod Soden, Cathy Bollacker, Fred Boettcher, and Mackie O’Neal.

In addition to the par-three game, there was a putting game with a chance for each golfer to make four putts on the practice green. Eight golfers made two putts: Dave Dutton, Kimi Kelley, Mike Stokes, Joe McClain, Mackie O’Neal, Dennis Golding, and Dianna Melinski. They will share the prize money for that game.

Next Tuesday, July 7, we will play a scramble game with extra putts to lower the team score. Registration will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., with teams being picked at 8:45 a.m. No players can be added after this time. Play is scheduled to begin at approximately 9:00 a.m. Please call 719-469-0691 if you anticipate being late for registration but will be able to tee off on time.
