Obituary

Judith Ann Rife, 81, passed away on May 29, 2026, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Judy was born on January 12, 1945, in Raton, New Mexico to Oscar and Betty Short, and was raised in Folsom, New Mexico. Throughout her later years, Judy lived in many places, including Clayton, NM, La Junta, CO and most recently, Edgewood, NM.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and looked forward to playing cards at family gatherings. Judy enjoyed painting, especially ranch scenes and animals. Judy also enjoyed quilting and crafting.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Betty Short; twin brothers Jerald and Gerald, and her grandson Riley Newkirk.

She is survived by her children, Michelle Alexander and husband Jim of Raton, NM; Debbie Shumate of Edgewood, NM; Mike Henry and wife Marlene of Jamestown, NM; and Donald Short of La Junta, CO; her siblings, Patsy Blundell and husband Larry, Billie Salas (late husband Joe Salas), and Cindy Horn and her husband Alan;9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren; as well and several nieces and nephews, other family and friends.

Judy will be remembered for her love of family, her creativity, and the time she shared with those she cared about.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
