CBI Investigating Death After Missing Cañon City Man Shawn Michael Dixon Sr.'s Remains Found Near Skyline Drive

Description: The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is leading a death investigation after the remains of missing Cañon City man Shawn Michael Dixon Sr., last seen in September 2023, were discovered by hikers near Skyline Drive on July 19, 2026. July 28, 2026 –  - CBI - Cañon City, CO –The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in coordination with the Cañon City Police Department, has initiated a death investigation following the discovery of human remains by hikers near Skyline Drive in Cañon City on July 19, 2026.

The remains have been positively identified as Shawn Michael Dixon Sr. (DOB: 09/22/1978).  Mr. Dixon Sr. was last seen and heard from on September 12, 2023 at approximately 7 p.m. as he was getting out of a taxi near Rudd Park. Mr. Dixon Sr. was supposed to meet his family later that evening at “Triangle Park” (near the intersection of Hazel Avenue and College Avenue) but did not arrive.

The CBI is now taking the lead in this active death investigation. Further details regarding the autopsy results are currently pending.

Law enforcement is seeking assistance from the public. Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to submit an anonymous tip to Fremont County CrimeStoppers.
