Obituary

With grateful hearts, we celebrate the beautiful life of Nola Mae (Goss) Cox, who peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 19, 2026, at the age of 97.

She was born on September 8, 1928, in the small mountain town of La Veta, Colorado, just before the Great Depression. Nola grew up as one of ten children in a hardworking coal-mining family. Those early years shaped the woman she would become—strong, resilient, resourceful, and always able to find joy in life’s simplest blessings. After graduating from La Veta High School, Nola answered the call to serve others. She began her career as a grade-school teacher during the war years and later devoted her life to teaching Bible study, assisting children with special needs, and caring for seniors. Whether in a classroom, a church, or beside someone’s bedside, she shared kindness, patience, and compassion that touched countless lives.

Nola shared 47 wonderful years of marriage with the love of her life, Robert Lee Cox. Together they built a home overflowing with love, faith, laughter, and cherished memories while raising their three children: James, Cynthia, and Natalie. Family game nights, sewing projects, treasured thrift-store finds, and simple time spent together created a lifetime of memories her family will always hold dear. Above all else, Nola loved the Lord Jesus Christ. Her faith was not only something she believed—it was something she lived every day. Through quiet strength, unwavering grace, and a gentle spirit, she became a source of comfort, encouragement, and unconditional love to everyone fortunate enough to know her. She had a remarkable way of making people feel welcomed, valued, and cared for.

Nola is lovingly survived by her sister, Mary Rodier; her daughters, Cynthia (Bob) Livingston and Natalie Henderson; her grandchildren, Rob (Maria) Livingston, Christopher (Nomelyn) Henderson, Madeline Henderson, and Colton Henderson; and six beloved great-grandchildren who will continue to carry her legacy forward.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Cox; her son, James Cox; her grandson, Steven Livingston; her brothers, Byrl and Bob; and her sisters, Margaret, Zelma, Olena, Hannah, Mildred, and Delores.

Nola will be laid to rest in La Veta Cemetery in Colorado, surrounded by the place where her life’s journey began. Though our hearts grieve her absence, we rejoice in the promise that she is now at peace—reunited with loved ones who have gone before her and resting forever in the presence of her Savior. Her life was a testament to faith, family, kindness, and simple joys. The love she gave so freely, the wisdom she shared, and the example she set will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Rest in peace, Nola. Thank you for your love, your faith, your gentle heart, and the countless memories you’ve given us. You will always be deeply loved, forever remembered, and greatly missed.

An 11:00 A.M. Graveside Funeral Service will be Held at the La Veta Cemetery in La Veta, Colorado on Sunday August 9, 2026. Rabbi Michael Marks will be officiating.
