Serious Crash on Highway 50 Near La Junta Leaves One Trapped, Airlifted After Lengthy Rescue

At approx 838 pm tonight LJFD responded to a MVC at Hwy 50 and Rd 31 in La Junta.

Upon arrival crews found two vehicles just off the highway with heavy damage and one person trapped.

Crews utilized extrication tools for an extended time to remove the driver of one of the vehicles.

The party had serious injuries.

Helicopter was called to the scene and traffic was stopped going Eastbound.

After the driver was extricated, they were transported by helicopter to another hospital.

The others involved in the crash were evaluated on scene.

The crash is under investigation by Colorado State Patrol. On scene assisting was OCSO.
