Aspen Acres Fire Daily Update – August 6, 2026

CURRENT SITUATION
Suppression repair remains the primary focus across the Aspen Acres fire incident. Heavy equipment and utility crews are working along State Highway 165 to remove debris and address impacts from both flooding and fire. The highway remains closed at this time and is being continually reevaluated for updates as conditions improve.
Along the southwestern perimeter near San Isabel, heat may still be present in the interior and occasional smoke could be visible. Firefighters remain active in the area, mopping up where needed and patrolling to ensure the fire stays within its established footprint.
Firefighters are using heavy equipment to restore areas along the firelines. As part of this work, crews are chipping the wood and brush previously cleared and staged along the fireline. The chipped material is then scattered over bare soil to help prevent erosion and support the landscape’s return to its natural condition.
WEATHER
Relative humidity will start off high in the morning but will quickly drop after the morning inversion breaks. Afternoon readings are expected to fall below 20% across much of the fire area, which will again limit the chance of thunderstorm development to around 15%. If any thunderstorms do form, lightning and gusty winds will be the main concerns, as limited moisture reduces the potential for heavy rainfall. Hot temperatures are expected to continue through the end of the week.
CLOSURE AND EVACUATIONS
There is a Fire Area Closure on Pike-San Isabel National Forests & Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands, San Carlos Ranger District was reduced. The Greenhorn Mountain Wilderness is now open with access only through the Bartlett and Greenhorn trailheads out of Rye. Visit: https://www.fs.usda.gov/.../aspen-acres-fire-area-closure.
There is a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) in place over the fire area, covering a 7‑nautical‑mile radius. It is active during daytime hours only, from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM. This restriction applies to all aircraft, including drones and other unmanned aerial systems.
