Jefferson County Vehicular Eluding Operation

Law enforcement teamed up to stop vehicles from fleeing

(Colorado) – Last Saturday, August 1, 2026, the Colorado State Patrol joined forces with Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies to stop vehicles, specifically motorcycles, that elude law enforcement. The event focused on a variety of traffic violations but was designed to address individuals who failed to pull over and stop for law enforcement using aircraft capabilities. 

The operation was conducted between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m. on C-470 (between I-70 and the Santa Fe exit), as well as portions of unincorporated southern Jefferson County. Law enforcement officers participated in marked and unmarked patrol vehicles, motor units and included a Colorado State Patrol aircraft unit.

Colorado State Patrol Units - Results

• 14 contacts
  • Five citations: two reckless driving, one for no motorcycle endorsement, and two speeding
  • Two arrests: one for felony eluding and one for misdemeanor DUI

Jefferson County Sheriff Units - Results

• 9 Contacts
  • Six citations issued: one reckless driving, two speed contest, one disregard traffic control device
  • One arrest assist for CSP, impounded two vehicles for street racing and one motorcycle for eluding

Video Footage

During the joint operation, deputies observed three motorcycles, including two without plates, sitting at a retail location at Bowles Avenue and Simms Street. The three riders left the location and went westbound on Bowles Avenue. A Colorado State Trooper initiated a traffic stop at Bowles Avenue and Alire Street. Two of the motorcycle riders stopped, and one rider fled.

The motorcycle that refused to stop for the trooper fled westbound onto C-470. A second Trooper and his Field Training Officer were stopped on the westbound ramp to C-470 as the motorcycle rider sped by them at a high rate of speed. A second attempt was made to stop the rider, and he continued to flee. After the second attempt, troopers stopped following the rider, and the Colorado State Patrol aircraft unit followed the motorcycle rider along with Jefferson County Sheriff's motor units.

The motorcycle was stopped at Eastbound I-70 at the Youngfield exit, where Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputies handcuffed the rider and a Colorado State Trooper arrested him for felony eluding.

Arrests and charges are merely accusations until and unless a suspect is convicted of a crime. All suspects and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
