On August 26, 2026 at approximately 3:30pm, Prowers County Deputies were advised of a possible homicide suspect driving toward Prowers County from Bent County. While responding to assist Bent County, a deputy located the suspect in the 700 block of N. Main St in Lamar. The suspect, Diego Martinez, 20 years old and currently living in Lamar, was quickly arrested by Deputies and Lamar PD, on a (attempted) homicide warrant out of Pueblo County. Martinez was held at the Prowers County Jail on a $250,000 cash only bond.

Three Arrested for Prior Shooting of a Juvenile

Detectives from the Impact/Non‑Fatal Shoot Team responded and initiated an investigation. Through their efforts, multiple suspects were identified, then search warrants and arrest warrants were subsequently secured for three individuals.
 
On August 27, 2026, PPD Special Investigation Division Detectives along with other PPD personnel assisted in a multi-jurisdictional response to execute the warrants. The participating agencies included: Colorado Springs Police Department Tactical Enforcement Unit, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office SWAT, Prowers County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and PPD SWAT.
 
At approximately 8:30 a.m. search warrants were executed on five residences that ranged from north Colorado Springs to the City of Pueblo. Two people were taken into custody at that time in relation to the shooting incident that occurred on August 15 near Dillon Dr and W. 29th St.
 
The third male involved in this case was arrested in Prowers County.
 
The individuals arrested were:
 
Anthony Vigil, 20, charged with two counts of Complicity to Commit Attempted First‑Degree Murder.
 
Adam Fernandez, 43, charged with two counts of Complicity to Commit Attempted First‑Degree Murder.
 
Diego Martinez, 20, charged with two counts of Attempted First‑Degree Murder.
