Isabel Solis Zumwalt, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, entered into rest on August 30, 2026, at Bluestem Village Nursing Home in La Junta, Colorado. She was born on September 2, 1936, in Forsyth, Montana, to Petra and John Solis, and lived a life marked by devotion to family, generosity toward others, and quiet strength. Isabel was 89 years of age.
She is lovingly survived by her daughters, Consuelo Solis of La Junta and Cecilia (Ken) McNerney of La Junta; sons, Billy (Carrie) Zumwalt of La Junta and Frank P. Zumwalt of La Junta; grandchildren, Chelsea (Matt) Martinez of Alamosa, Shay McNerney of Alamosa, Samantha Zumwalt of La Junta, Casey Zumwalt of La Junta, Isaac Zumwalt of La Junta, Emily Zumwalt of La Junta, and Jason Zumwalt of La Junta; sister, Juanita Zamora of Independence, Kansas; special niece, Marlene (Rory) Vigil of Denver; and dear friends, Pat Valdez and Judy Romero.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Billy L. Zumwalt, three sisters, and six brothers.
Isabel was married to Billy L. Zumwalt for 46 years. Together they raised a beautiful family. Throughout her life, Isabel found purpose in hard work, faith, and service. She worked at the pickle plant in La Junta and generously gave her time through volunteer work with Olivet Baptist Church. She took joy in the simple and beautiful things in life: fishing at Monument Lake near Trinidad, She loved flowers, especially white roses and planting in her garden. Her caring heart was evident in the way she helped friends, supported her family, and lovingly helped raise her extended nephews and nieces.
Above all, Isabel’s greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and willingness to help anyone in need. To those who knew and loved her, Isabel was a wonderful and special presence whose love left a lasting imprint. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
