Large Railroad Tie Fire Burns in Pueblo Midtown Area; Fire Department Issues Smoke Advisory

Description: Pueblo firefighters are battling a large railroad tie fire in the Midtown area. No structures are threatened, but residents are advised to avoid heavy smoke.

PUEBLO, Colo. — September 5, 2026 — The Pueblo Fire Department, assisted by county mutual aid agencies, is battling a large fire involving a pile of railroad ties in Pueblo’s Midtown area.

According to Pueblo Fire, no structures are threatened at this time.

Because of the material burning, firefighters are warning residents about the heavy smoke plume produced by the fire. Anyone with respiratory issues, as well as people who are downwind of the fire, should take precautions to limit their exposure to the smoke.

Residents who encounter smoke are advised to close windows and doors, turn off outside-air handling units and leave the area if smoke settles around their home or location.

There are currently no official evacuation or pre-evacuation orders in place.

Pueblo Fire and county mutual aid providers continue working to control the blaze.

Residents should avoid the fire area and give emergency crews room to operate.
