Sunday Football Enforcement Operation
Colorado State Patrol increases presence across metro communities
(Colorado) – The Colorado State Patrol will conduct a high-visibility traffic enforcement initiative focused on six counties around the metro region on Sunday, September 20, 2026. With the Broncos home opener scheduled to kick off at 2:05 p.m. this Sunday, motorists can expect to see an increase in troopers throughout the afternoon and into late evening in Jefferson, Clear Creek, Adams, Boulder, Douglas, and Arapahoe Counties to ensure comprehensive coverage across county lines.
This operation’s primary focus is on deterring impaired driving on major traffic arteries and feeder roads in the area. While stopping intoxicated drivers remains the central goal, troopers will also address any dangerous driving behavior they observe or are reported.
Troopers will watch for drivers engaging in distracted or aggressive driving, including excessive speeding, unsafe lane changes, tailgating, and improper passing. In addition, if a driver shows any signs of impairment, they should not expect a warning. There is no excuse to drive under the influence of any impairing substance.
If you encounter a driver that you suspect is intoxicated, avoid that vehicle and, when safe, pull over and contact the Colorado State Patrol by calling *CSP (*277) or 9-1-1. Be prepared to provide a vehicle description, license plate number, and location and direction of travel.

Troopers continue to take a low-tolerance approach to the top fatal crash factors, including impaired driving. The Colorado State Patrol reminds motorists to plan for a sober ride, drive at the speed limit, and maintain their lane position based on the current driving conditions.
