Clarification Regarding Emergency Alert Notification

Rocky Ford Emergency Communications Center — 9/21/26 — is issuing the following clarification regarding an emergency alert that was distributed to the public on 9/21/26.

A shelter-in-place notification was initially issued for a specific three-block area in response to police activity. The notification was intended only for individuals within that designated area.
 
When the situation was resolved, an all-clear notification was inadvertently distributed to all alert recipients, rather than being limited to the same three-block area that received the initial shelter-in-place notification.
 
The broader distribution of the all-clear message was the result of an alert-system notification error. The all-clear message did not indicate that a new emergency was occurring or that a shelter-in-place order had been issued for the broader community.
 
The original shelter-in-place notification applied only to the designated three-block area. The all-clear message was sent more broadly than intended.
 
Rocky Ford Emergency Communications Center recognizes that emergency notifications must be accurate and appropriately targeted. We are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the notification error and will take steps to help prevent a similar issue from occurring in the future.
