Pueblo Police Mourn Loss of Corporal Stephen Biggs After Lake Pueblo Wakeboarding Accident

The Pueblo Police Department is deeply saddened to share the passing of off-duty officer, Corporal Stephen Biggs. He was in a wakeboarding accident on September 27, 2026, at Lake Pueblo State Park. After a search and recovery effort, with the Pueblo County Coroner’s Office standing by, his body was recovered on September 28, 2026, at approximately 2:00 a.m.

His next of kin has been notified by the Pueblo County Coroner. Cause and manner of death will be released by the Pueblo County Coroner’s Office.

Corporal Biggs has been employed with the Pueblo Police Department since October of 2010. During his career he served as a Patrol Training Officer, and he was a distinguished member of the SWAT team.  He had received 10 letters of commendation, three Medal of Valor awards, and the Distinguished Service award.

“Working with Stephen was an honor, and his loss is deeply personal,” said Chief of Pueblo Police Department Chris Noeller “His courage, dedication, and commitment to his fellow officers meant so much to our department. I was proud to serve with him, and I will miss him. My heart is with his family, his friends, and everyone in our department who is grieving his loss.”

Pueblo Police Department shares thoughts and deepest condolences are with Corporal Biggs family, friends, fellow coworkers and everyone who knew and loved him during this incredibly difficult time.  It is requested to respect the family’s privacy as they grieve this unexpected loss.

The Pueblo Police Department is grateful to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Pueblo County Sheriff’s Patrol Deputies, Pueblo County Sheriff’s Emergency Services Dive Team, Pueblo County Sheriff’s Drone Team, American Medical Response (AMR), Pueblo West Fire, Flight for Life, Marine Evidence Recovery Team (MERT) and everyone who assisted in the recovery effort.

“Colorado Parks and Wildlife extends its deepest sympathy to the family, friends and fellow officers of Corporal Stephen Biggs,” said Frank McGee, CPW Southeast Region Manager. “As fellow law enforcement officers, we stand with the Pueblo Police Department in mourning the loss of a brother officer.”

To pay respect to Corporal Biggs, his patrol car will be parked in front of the Pueblo Police Department (200 South Main Street).
