Big Timbers Museum to Host Music and History Program October 15

Big Timbers Museum invites the public to an evening of fiddle music and pioneer history on October 15, 2026, at 7 p.m., featuring Chris and Dr. Jeff Broome.

The program will open with 15 minutes of fiddle music by Chris, whom the event announcement identifies as the first woman to win the National Fiddle Championship in 1996. Her husband, Jeff Broome, will join her on guitar before presenting a talk about pioneer woman Julia Lambert, her experiences at both Fort Lyon locations during the 1860s, and her later life.

Copies of Broome’s latest book, Plain Tales of the Plains, will be available. The book explores eight articles Lambert wrote more than a century ago, with added historical background and insights. Lambert knew the Kit Carson and Prowers families and was a friend of Amache.
