The October 7, 2026 verdict sends a message that justice was served.

Samantha Kimberly, 40, was found guilty of first-degree murder and two counts of child abuse today by a Pueblo jury in the death of her 3-year-old son and the abuse of an older son.

“I want to commend our team of detectives, led by Detective Vanessa Simpson, for their tireless work and commitment to this case,” said Pueblo County Sheriff David J. Lucero.

I would also like to acknowledge Deputy McConnell, who was a first responder and did an amazing job.

Their efforts, in partnership with the District Attorney’s Office, ensured a thorough investigation and a successful pursuit of justice.

I want to commend our 10th Judicial District Attorney Kala Beauvais and Senior Deputy District Attorney Christine Butterfield for the tremendous job they did prosecuting this case, ensuring justice was served for the victims.

I also want to thank the members of the jury for their attentiveness and diligent work as they endured weeks of difficult testimony involving one of the most tragic child abuse cases in our community.

Our thoughts remain with all who were impacted by this heartbreaking case.”

Kimberly is set to be sentenced on October 26.
