Minutes were approved as written in the newsletter and the treasurer’s report was approved as given.
Old Business
There were 19 cars present at the Cottonwood Ridge Car Show. James came away with the prize money with his Model A.
The club’s car show was a great success this year. Forty-one cars, two tractors and some motorcycles attended. Next year all vendors will be in the circle and not down the lane.
Jimmie’s pine derby was enjoyed by the youngsters. Greg’s demos went over well also. About eight people were really interested and stayed to learn some car maintenance. Both will be worth bringing it back next year. Other details and improvements were discussed including potties, cleaning of gazebo and Missy and Doug have a chair that was abandoned at the show in case it belongs to you. Wayne has suggested that maybe next year we charge a $20 fee. This could be voluntary as our club has always been free to everyone who wants to show their vehicle. For the fee, participants would get a t-shirt. First prize at the car show went to Kenny Pearson for his 1969 Dodge Charger; second to Chuck Donkle for his Studebaker Taxi; and third to Harry Martin for his 1936 Ford Sedan Delivery.
The Tarantula Fest has grown significantly with our car show at the Court House. Some suggested moving it to Second Street, but no shade is a drawback.
However, the children’s bubble machine on the grass behind the cars was not good for the car’s paint jobs. Next year we will get there earlier and take over the spot. The club will join Inspiration Field on Thursday, October 29 from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m. for the Halloween “Trunk & Treat” event. Walmart is also sponsoring an event, and signs are out at Walmart with details.
Bill and Carol reminded us that Saturday is the car show in Sugar City. Coffee and do-nuts at the Allen home and the show begins at 10 a.m. there will be lunch served at noon downtown for a nominal fee.
New Business
A sign-up sheet for the November soup supper was passed around. Signing up are Gwen – Brunswick stew; Judy – chicken noodle soup; Sara – potato soup & green chili casserole; Missy – cheese & crackers; Chuck & Karen – green chili; James – rolls; Jimmie & Vicki – fresh veggies; Richard & Elaine – pie? Lee S. – sausage & butter squash; Carol – deviled eggs; Joyce – dessert; and Dale – pecan pie. If you weren’t there to sign up, bring something to fill in the holes.
Nominations for 2027 officers were discussed. Wayne & Greg were up for president. Carol and Judy will continue in their positions. Ben turned down a board of director’s job. There will be nominations from the floor at the November 3 meeting. The board wants to review the by-laws this year.
December first is the Christmas Party. Last year, the club donated $35 to each couple for their meal. If your meal was under $35, it will be free. Over and the couple will reimburse the club. Rich Wittman will check with a caterer in Fowler while Judy and Leonard will talk with Caitlyn Hansen.
Mention of possible winners of the hard luck trophy were Gary Caldwell, Leonard Walgren, Chuck Donkle, and Greg Holt. A lotta competition!
Jimmie reported that the museum has accepted another donation of a 1914 Interstate auto from Dave Watters. There will need to be more rearranging and club members will be asked to help. Only 117 of this model was made. Greg is helping with getting the blacksmith area of the museum going.
Dale passed out hats he made with the club logo on them. Nice job, Dale.
Meeting adjourned Secretary Judy Walgren
The November 3rd meeting will be at Otero Museum at 6:30 p.m. Bring soup or food to share. Hope to see you all there.
