Multiple Fatalities in Three-Vehicle Crash on Highway 83 Near Franktown

**UPDATE** Three Vehicle Fatal Crash Near Franktown
(Douglas County, COLO) – The initial investigation of the fatal crash on Highway 83 near milepost 40.5 shows the driver of the Toyota hatchback (Matrix) was driven by a 31-year-old male out of Denver, who was not shown to have been using a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The Toyota Matrix was reported stolen through the Aurora Police Department on November 24, 2025, at approximately 3:30 p.m.
The driver of the Ford sedan (Fusion) was driven by a 35-year-old male from Colorado Springs. The passengers of the Fusion were identified as a 13-year-old female, an 8-year-old male, a 12-year-old female, a 12-year-old male, and a 14-year-old male, all from Colorado Springs. The driver and the front seat passenger, a 13-year-old female, were shown to be wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. The 13-year-old female and the 14-year-old male, sitting in the back seat of the vehicle, were airlifted to an area hospital for life-threatening injuries.
Originally, three vehicles were believed to be involved in this crash. The third vehicle, a Ford pickup, had been behind the Ford Fusion and had stopped just before the crash scene. No damage was observed on the vehicle, and it was determined that the car was not involved.
The Highway was reopened at 11:50 p.m.
This case is currently under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit. Three Vehicle Fatal Crash Near Franktown
Two seriously injured, multiple fatalities
(DOUGLAS CO, COLO) - This evening, November 24, 2025, around 04:39 p.m., the Colorado State Patrol responded to a three-vehicle crash involving a black Toyota hatchback, a tan Ford sedan and a black Ford pickup. The crash occurred on Highway 83 at mile marker 40.5, near Russellville Road.
The Toyota was traveling southbound on Highway 83 when the driver lost control and went off the right shoulder. The Toyota returned to the roadway and rolled onto the northbound lane, ejecting the driver. The Ford sedan was traveling northbound when the Toyota hit it head-on. The Toyota, after crashing into the Ford sedan, kept traveling southbound in the northbound lanes and struck a Ford pickup, causing minor damage.
The driver of the Toyota was ejected when it started to roll and was pronounced dead on the scene. The Ford sedan was occupied by an adult driver and five juveniles. The driver, an adult male, and three of the juveniles were pronounced dead on the scene. The two other juveniles were airlifted to a nearby medical facility. The driver of the Ford pickup was not injured.
The Douglas County Coroner will identify all the deceased after all next of kin have been notified.
The Colorado State Patrol’s Vehicular Crimes Unit is leading the investigation. It is unknown at this time why the Toyota lost control.
Highway 83 will be closed due to the investigation and cleanup. Drivers in the area are advised to find an alternate route. It is unknown when the roadway will reopen. Check COTrip.org for reopening.
