Pedestrian Killed in Late-Night Manzanola Crash on US 50, Colorado State Patrol Investigating

The Colorado State Patrol Reports on a Fatal Vehicle VS Pedestrian Crash on April 11, 2026 in Manzanola, Colorado

The Colorado State Patrol Public Information Officer Reported that State Troopers responded to a call for a passenger car striking a pedestrian on US Highway 50 near Mile Post 362 in Manzanola, Colorado at 10:51 PM on April 11, 2026.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, a pedestrian was walking in the left most eastbound lane (lane #2) of US Highway 50 and was struck by an eastbound 2014 Ford Focus. The pedestrian landed on the right shoulder of the roadway and the Ford Focus came to a controlled stop.

The CSP Public Information Officer reported that a 33 year old male was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Otero County Coroner released the deceased's name, Christopher M. Chavez.

The Coroner's Office reported that an autopsy is pending and the Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit is still investigating the incident.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, US Highway 50 was partially closed at 10:55 PM while an on scene investigation was conducted and the highway was reopened shortly after.

The 2014 Ford Focus was driven by an 18 year-old male and had two juvenile passengers, according to the CSP PIO.

After preliminary investigation, alcohol is being considered as a factor in the crash, CSP reported.

All parties are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
